What is Lilli’s approach?
Lilli is a Psychoanalytically trained therapist and this orients her counselling and psychotherapy practice. It aims at the root of suffering and helps people to go beyond it. Potentially, this form of psychotherapy can have a long lasting affect in person’s life.
Lilli’s practice aims to assist individuals with difficulties, thought processes and symptoms that are a source of psychological and emotional distress, by helping them to invent and construct new solutions to life’s varied situations and challenges.
What is Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is a powerful, highly effective treatment approach for many people struggling with difficult emotions. In the words of Sigmund Freud, “Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways.” This form of therapy can help unearth and process unconscious emotions, paving the way for psychological growth.
What is the length and frequency of sessions?
This is discussed during the initial consultation. Lilli orients the work by the singular needs of each person and on the basis how to best address those needs. Quite commonly therapeutic work starts with one weekly session.
However, the sessions can be also more frequent, depending on each person’s life situation as well as variable in length.
Who is it for?
Reasons for seeking therapy are varied and different for each person. Engagement with therapeutic work can be helpful when a person is feeling depressed, stressed or anxious, and it can bring about both immediate relief and long term benefits.
People seek psychotherapy for interpersonal difficulties - perhaps because of distressing patterns which cause suffering repeatedly, and therefore there may be a need to address them. Others seek therapy when they experience a crisis or are struggling to cope with, for example, grief and bereavement, anxiety or relationship issues.
Reasons for seeking psychoanalytic psychotherapy can also be a particular question on life and on subjectivity, something a person wants to explore and understand better.
Lilli accepts private referrals and works with both Finnish and English speaking individuals; adults and adolescents.
What about confidentiality?
Client confidentiality is part of the ethical code of Lilli’s practice; however, it has some limitations pertaining to the statutory requirements of the profession of psychotherapy and counselling in Ireland. This will be explained during the initial consultation.
Is Lilli’s practice insured?
Practice is fully insured. Lilli is a fully accredited member of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) and the Irish Forum for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IFPP), which is committed to providing the highest professional standards in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. IFPP practitioners have as a minimum four years post graduate training at master level and are dedicated to ongoing professional development as an ethical commitment to their profession.
